A two storey house on a modern estate conveniently placed for public transport and shops
With its weekly markets, historic streets and beautiful countryside all around, Bishops Stortford manages to keep a rural atmosphere despite its superb transport links to London and Cambridge - it is 35 mins to London Liverpool St station on the Stansted Express train.
Our house is situated on the outskirts of the town on a modern estate and 30 minutes walk into the town and the station. Our house is close to a regular bus route into town and also to London Stansted airport. We are within 5 mins walking distance of a supermarket, coffee shop, chemist, and a pub.
Although we have 3 bedrooms upstairs, one is used as an office/study and does not have a bed. The main bedroom is the largest with an en-suite shower and wash basin and our bed is a super king-sized with electric adjustable positions on each side. The 2nd bedroom is smaller, but has 2 single beds (see photos). Downstairs we have a conservatory which is lovely to sit in and read if it's raining or after a long day out sightseeing.
We are experienced exchangers having been members of another exchange company since 1996 and have completed over 35 exchanges. We leave you lots of instructions, maps and ideas of places to visit, hopefully which will save you planning time to enjoy yourselves.
We have 1 cat who needs pet care please. Ginger is indoors a lot, particularly in winter, but he can get outdoors through his cat flap when ever he wants to, but we need exchangers who are not allergic to cats. We would be happy to look after your pets too.
In 2026 we already have several exchanges planned, but we would still be interested in discussing a short exchange in the UK in the Autumn.
In 2027 we are open to offers from the UK and Europe. We like to drive and see other towns en route, but could fly from Stansted airport. We already have several commitments in the first few months, but we would be particularly interested in NE Spain or S France. But please contact with any other suggestions us and we will reply ASAP.

About the neighborhood
We are on a fairly modern estate, within walking distance to a Sainsbury's Supermarket and local shops including a pharmacy, cafe, hairdressers, post office, newsagent and take-away. We also have a good eating and drinking pub at the end of the road, The Harvest Moon, opposite a bus stop to the centre of Bishops Stortford and/or Stansted airport. From B/S a train will take you into London or north to Cambridge within 35mins in either direction.

We are also well placed for short drives by car into the pretty villages of East Anglia with the thatched roofed cottages, or a slighty further drive will take to you the pretty, unspoilt beaches of north Norfolk and Suffolk. Also easily accessible are an abundance of historic properties and beautiful gardens managed by the National Trust and English Heritage. Also the world famous sculptor Henry Moore, lived and worked in a nearby village and his house and gardens are open to the public.

Bishops Stortford is a nice town with lots to offer. We enjoyed the walk along the river to the town. Countryside is on the doorstep too. The house is lovely and we really enjoyed looking after Ginger the cat!

The best exchange ever had since 1988 (but I always think so after each exchange😀!). We've been in close touch via fb and WhatsApp since we agreed to exchange last October (I always start looking for an exchange when I come back from our summer exchange) and have gradually become friends! They are more than nice people, Liz and Nick are simply great! We enjoyed their house, the company of their cats and that of their welcoming neighbours, who invited us to a street BBQ. They are trustworthy partners, who left Homelink for the bad quality of their website (bright idea!) and are very satisfied with Intervac.
Liz en Nick zijn superaardige mensen en hun huis is van alle gemakken voorzien. Rustig gelegen en goede uitvalsbasis om met de trein naar London te gaan of andere plaatsen in de omgeving (bijv. Cambridge) te bezoeken of te wandelen in de natuur.

Enjoying travel and experiencing different life styles
We are both in our 70s. Liz is a retired teacher/educational consultant. Nick is a retired freelance architectural technician. We have been doing home exchange since 1996 (with another company) and have done over 36 exchanges throughout the world. We have 1 easy cat who is fairly independent - but he needs feeding and a lot of fuss when its available from you.
We like to visit interesting towns and villages and enjoy their historical and photographic interest. We are both keen amateur photographers and Nick has taken up watercolour painting again, in particular urban sketching.
We also like visiting museums, art galleries and open gardens. Because of our age, we can no longer do long country walks and trails.
We would be happy to look after your cats and other small pets, although probably not your dog, sorry.
We often go away on a holiday which is not a home exchange, visiting family or friends so we would be happy to let you stay in our house if you would agree to look after our cat, Ginger. Contact us for dates this may be possible.
