About the neighborhood
The apartment is located in a quiet 20th-century neighbourhood (1940). A long, lively shopping street is just a 1-minute walk away. Here you’ll find various shops, including a budget supermarket and a more upscale one, a bakery, a produce shop, a fish market, an organic grocery store, a bookstore, a pastry shop, and more.
There are also several restaurants and cafés with outdoor seating nearby.
In the park at the end of our street, there’s also a pleasant spot where you can get coffee, lunch, and drinks. When the weather is nice, people picnic, swim, and row boats there.
In another park, the lively Westerpark, a 10-minute walk away, there are more cafés, terraces, restaurants, a movie theater, and all kinds of cultural activities. There are beautiful buildings from a former gasworks, now a national monument.
There are also many buildings in the “Amsterdam School” architectural style to admire in the vicinity of our home. And you can cycle everywhere, but do be careful!
The 17th-century city center, with its famous canals and houses, is easily and quickly accessible. For example, take bus 21 to Central Station (stop 100 meters from our home). Or take tram 19 (stop 400 meters away), which passes many interesting parts of the old city, including the major museums. The closest neighbourhood to the old town is the lively “Jordaan,” Amsterdam’s Latin Quarter. Take this tram in the other direction and you’ll be at a train station in 10 minutes, from where you can reach Haarlem in 10 minutes another beautiful old town, but though smaller. This train also takes you to the sea and the beach in 25 minutes.
Paid parking is required throughout Amsterdam. On average, it costs €5 per hour, unless you park in a suburb or village just outside the city, where it is free. From there, you can easily take public transportation to and from our home. There is also the option to rent a car.

We are a visual artist and a photographer, both of us retired. But we still work regularly.
We love all forms of art. We both still have a small studio in Amsterdam. Our hobby is cooking at home, and we have just about every herb and spice we need for it. Martin plays classical guitar and we both love reading books.
Our children 34 and 26 also live in Amsterdam. We enjoy walking around the neighbourhood and downtown visiting art galleries and musea.
