Jim and I retired young in 2008 to travel the world by bicycle.
We met and bonded over bicycling and traveling in the 70s in San Francisco. Our first cycle tour was in '97 in the Dordogne. Since then we have bicycle 60,000 km in 21 countries. Our first home exchange was in '98 in Lille. Since then we have exchanged almost 30 times.
We only just joined Intervac at the recommendation of a couple we stayed with in Brittany last spring. As we are new to Interval we can provide you references from past exchanges.
We are physically active adults, now in our 18th year of retirement, we love traveling the world but leaving a minimalist footprint. We have done a lot of slow travel and prefer to settle into a place and deeply explore a region. So we do a lot of cycling, walking, hiking, camping. We are also members of Warmshowers, an international bicycle-traveling hosting group. I have published 2 books about our trips, a third is on the way . . .
We like to make personal connections through our exchanges, just returned from 3-months in France where we reconnected with people from past trips. We have entertained guests when they return to San Francisco as well.
Our condo is our home, lovingly decorated for comfort and pleasure. We like to exchange with people who know how to take care of and clean a home themselves, maid service not necessary.
Jim and I just returned from 3 months in France, we had 4 exchanges (3 in Paris, and 1 in Lyon). We with to return to Europe September 1, the number and dates of exchanges flexible. As we are planning on 3 months it would be nice to do 3 exchanges of 1 month each, but we can make the exchange shorter or longer, depending on your preference. Preferably cities or towns with amenities close enough for us to get to by walk, bike, or transit, as we prefer not to use a car. We may bring our bikes, depending on the exchange locations.
We also have a second home so if you would rather visit San Francisco at a different time than next fall we are open to that.
