House in Boden, Sweden
We are two teachers living with our four children in a typical Swedish family home in Sävast near the small town of Boden in the north of Sweden. We love traveling and joined Intervac since we thought it would be an interesting experience to change homes with another family. In the summer of 2012 we had a nice time when we made an exchange with a family in Belgium, and the same in the summer of 2013 when we went to Spain.
We are now interested in exchanging homes for 2-3 weeks in the summer of 2019.
Our home
Our home is full of books, toys and musical instruments, but there's still plenty of room left for comfortable living. In winter we spend a lot of time in our living room and the sauna, and in the summer we spend a lot of time in the garden and on the porch. The neighbourhood is quiet and friendly. Our house is a one storey villa built in 1976 and renovated successively. It has four bedrooms, kitchen with dining area, a spacious living room, two bathrooms and a sauna with adjacent shower and bathtub. In the living room we have a TV, VCR and DVD, and in the house you will find lots of books and magazines in Swedish and English, guitars, a piano, board games, PS3 and wireless internet. We also have a a small separate building were the kids like to hang out and watch TV. This building has two beds and can be used as an extra bedroom in summertime. In the backyard we have a large trampoline, swings, a sandbox with toys and a small playhouse. We also have a large wooden deck with a table and chairs. In the winter the garden is mostly covered with snow for the kids to play in.
Transport
There are several flights daily by Norwegian and SAS between Stockholm Arlanda airport and Luleå airport. The flight takes about 1 hour 15 minutes and is usually quite inexpensive when you book in advance. You can also fly directly to Luleå from Gothenburg with SAS. If you don't like flying you can take an overnight train with SJ from Stockholm to Boden which takes about 13 hours. By car it's a 9-10 hour drive (930 km) on the E4 from Stockholm. If you like we would be happy to arrange for you to be picked up by our relatives or friends at the airport or train station.
While staying in our home you can use one of our cars. We have a car that can be included in the exchange (Volkswagen Sharan with 7 seats). We also have bikes that you can use to explore the surroundings. You can take the bus to nearby towns such as Boden and Luleå, and from Boden you can take the train up-country towards Kiruna and Narvik.

Neighborhood
About the neighborhood
Our part of Sweden, the county of Norrbotten, is mostly renowned for its rivers, forests, mountains, aurora borealis and midnight sun. Experiencing nature is facilitated by Swedens strong right of public access.
In Norrbotten seasons are distinct. In summer the sun never sets and nature is green and lush. In autumn forests turn red and yellow and fill up with berries, elks and mushrooms. After the cold and dark beginning of winter comes the "spring winter", combining the possibilities and beauty of snow and ice with bright, warming sun light.
We live in a small community called Sävast. By car you can reach the town of Boden in 10 minutes, Luleå in 25, Älvsbyn in 40 and Piteå in about 60 minutes. It is also possible to make longer trips and explore Lapland with it's sami culture, national parks and mountains.
Sävast
Sävast is an old farmers and fishermens village situated along the Lule river. In around 1975 the community grew when a lot of villas were built by young families. It now has about 3000 inhabitants of all ages. In Sävast you are never far from forest or water, but we also have a well equipped convinience store, a restaurant that serves pizza and hamburgers, tracks in the forest for running and walking (or cross country skiing in winter), lots of bicycle paths, several public playgrounds and an 18 hole golf course.
Boden
Travelling along the Lule river by car you can easily reach Boden in 10 minutes. By bike it takes about 15-25 minutes, or you could go by bus.
The village of Boden started growing into a town when the railway between Luleå and Gällivare was built in the late 19th century. In the beginning of the 20th century the great Boden Fortress was built inside the mountains surrounding the town, and for the rest of the century the military dominated town life. If you are interested in military history you can visit the Defence Museum or the Red Mountain Fort (Rödbergsfortet) which has become a popular tourist attraction.
Boden offers great possibilities if you enjoy swimming and bathing. You can choose between Nordpoolen Aqua Park with several indoor pools, waterslides and saunas, outdoor pools at Boden Camping or just take a trip to a nearby lake or river.
Children can enjoy public playgrounds and the Funhouse playhouse. In winter time Storklinten offers great alpine skiing. In Boden you'll find lots of places to eat and drink. You can also enjoy art exhibitions, sport fishing, bowling, horse race tracks, a wild west theme park, concerts and movies at a nice old movie theatre, and much more. A must see is the spectacular Tree Hotel.

Luleå
Were the Lule river meets the sea, about 25 minutes by car or bus from Sävast, is the town of Luleå. Luleå is somewhat bigger than Boden and has a beautiful archipelago to be explored. In and near the town you will find places to eat and drink, shopping and culture. Heres a list of some of the places we like to visit in Luleå:

Älvsbyn
Taking your car across the Lule river and driving away from the coast for about 40 minutes will take you to the small town of Älvsbyn by the Pite river. The surroundings are astonishing, especially the majestic rapid Storforsen.

Piteå
Piteå is about an hours drive from Sävast, down the coast from Luleå were the Pite river meets the sea. Here you can listen to local artists performing at Kafé Krokodil, enjoy the citys culinary specialty "palt" at the Paltzeria, or enjoy a show, visit the aqua park or take a swim in the sea at Piteå Havsbad.

Norrbotten
The county of Norrbotten covers one fourth of Sweden and borders to Norway and Finland. If you wish to explore more of this part of the world than the immediate surroundings you can use our home as your base for trips to places such as the sami centre in Jokkmokk, the ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi, or the finnish border town Tornio. You can also go hiking in one of the many national parks of northern Sweden.

Ich konnte die Reise nach Schweden aus gesundheitlichen Gründen leider nicht machen. Die Partner Sebastian und Linda-Marie, die mit ihren Kindern in meinem Haus verweilten, waren sehr nett. Leider haben die Kinder an den Sofas aus Leder Kratzspuren hinterlassen :(

Sebastian (43) is a senior lecturer at the university in Luleå.
Linda-Marie (43) is a language and history teacher working at a secondary school in Boden.
Our children are Alexandra (17), Isabella (13), Theodora (4) and Zacharias (baby).
The children have three small turtles and some fishes in an aquarium.
Because of allergies we will not be able to exchange homes if you have for example cats or dogs staying inside your house.
