we are flexible
Cottage in Muskoka
We are looking for a home exchange in France between May 26, 2020, and June 30, 2020. (it can be for a few days or a week, we are flexible) We did a 'hosted' home exchange with a lovely couple and their three children from the Loire Valley. They spent a week with us, enjoying the playing on the beach, swimming in the lake, campfires, and exploring Algonquin Park.
We are going to visit them this spring. We would like to add a few weeks exploring other parts of France. We would like to stay for a week in Paris and a week in Provence. But, we are open to other suggestions. We love the countryside, gardens, art galleries and other cultural sites.
We love dogs, but John is allergic to them. We would prefer not to have the responsibility of looking after pets.
We are looking for a non-simultaneous exchange or hosted exchange. June is not the month to visit Muskoka, Canada, because we can have a lot of mosquitoes. We would be happy to have you at another time of year. July and August are warm and sunny and perfect for swimming and kayaking. September is one of my favourite months when it can be warm enjoy to swim and the leaves are starting to change colour. October is getting cooler but is spectacular with the autumn colours.
We look forward to hearing from you,
Cathy & John
Immerse yourself in the rustic charm of our cottage on the shore of Lake of Bays, just 20 minutes from Algonquin Park.
The cottage is a timber frame design with a walkout basement to the lakeside. On the main floor, there is a kitchen and dining and living room with a woodstove. A corridor library leads through the ‘hobbit door’ to the master bedroom with en-suite washroom with bath and shower. Off the master bedroom, a room has been added with gas fireplace, two desks and an elliptical, a perfect place to for morning yoga or tai chi. The sunroom is a lovely place to enjoy your morning coffee or watch the sunset. A deck off the sunroom has a barbeque and outside dining table for four. In the walkout basement, there is a den with TV, 3 bedrooms with double beds, and a second washroom with a shower. The washer and dryer are located off the hallway.
There are two other buildings on the property. The sleeping cabin by the lake has a double bed, single bed and bunk beds, there is a porch with a swinging couch. There is also a pottery studio that could be used for art projects or a writing room.
Our cottage is a place to unwind. Listen to the waves lapping on the beach. Read in the shade of the pine trees. Kayak through the morning mist. Wander along the walking path beside the lake. Savour fried chicken over the bonfire. Enjoy the sunset as you sit on the sandy beach. Experience the call of the loons as you gaze at the stars.
***John has allergies to dogs and cats. He can be around some non-shedding dogs like poodles, Portuguese water dogs, and wheaten terriers. But, we would prefer not having the responsibility of looking after a pet.
Another possibility is January. The cottage is a perfect place to experience a Canadian winter. Try the sport of curling on the ice or snowshoeing through the woods. Watch the deer as they pass by the cottage.
Families that stayed here said their favourite times were the ones spent at the cottage, exploring outside and playing games by the fire.
It is beautiful to walk just down a path along the lake. You can walk for a mile along the shoreline before it hooks back up with the newer paved Seabreeze Road. Or ramble along Warblers’ Trail, a path that neighbours created that runs from behind our cottage, through the woods.
