Renovated 17th century farmhouse in the centre of an idyllic English village, surrounded by hills & valleys. Relax, run/hike/bike, or immerse yourself in history by visiting the towns, castles & coastlines of all of Northern England & Southern Scotland
Built in the 1670s, this lovely home is at the heart of the village of Reeth, sitting at the meeting point of 2 hill ranges (known locally as ‘dales’) and centred around a 18th century green and old fashioned cobbles flanked by pubs, bakeries/cafes, shops, and an ice cream parlour.
The house is a fantastic base to explore all the historic cities, castles, stately homes, and stunning coastlines of the North of England and Southern Scotland - or if you prefer, switch off and escape into wild and rugged outstanding natural beauty, landscapes and tranquility - the extensive Yorkshire Dales National Park with its vast network of paths and trails, market towns, cafes and pubs.
You are warmly welcomed into my home with its original beams, wood burning stove in the sitting room, and glorious views - north and southwards - to hills and moors.
Immediately upon entering the house, there is a stone floor boot room (and adjacent toilet), ideal for storing outdoor gear as well as coats and shoes. From here head through to the south-facing dining room/kitchen and sitting room (and on to an office/study) or upstairs where there are three bedrooms. The main bedroom has a double bed and en-suite bathroom, the second bedroom has a king sized bed, and the third bedroom a double bed, and there is a family bathroom. All rooms have original beams and lovely views across the fields and up to the hills and beyond.
I do hope you thoroughly enjoy your time here, whatever you choose to do:
relax in the small, south facing, picturesque garden with seating areas for all times of the day, take a stroll to the river and return via a cafe or pub,
go hiking, running, biking, wild swimming, kayaking in any of the 10 Yorkshire dales/hill ranges,
take a drive to Harrogate with its 19 century Victorian Spa Baths or visit one of the beautiful Dales market towns and villages,
spend a day in York, Durham or Newcastle. Or head to Berwick or Edinburgh which are less than 2 hours by train from Darlington, or take a 2 hour beautiful drive to the Scottish towns of Dumfries and Moffat,
visit Castle Howard, Fountains Abbey, Richmond Castle, Raby Castle, Kipling Hall, or another of the historic sights in the area - as well as Hadrians Wall, the mountainous Lake District, Richmond’s Georgian theatre, and the stunning Northumberland coastline.
