Modern, architect-designed house in a fantastic location in central Edmonton - Alberta's capital city. Designed to be accessible and allow us to "age in place"

Our house is in a very central location, within sight of downtown Edmonton and backing on to a large ravine and trail system – great views and access to the river valley "ribbon of green" - trails that go from one end of the city to the other. Bike, walk, cross-country ski.... The house was built fourteen years ago.  We planned it so that we can stay in it as we grow older.  All three floors are accessible thanks to an elevator and "at grade" entrance.(i.e. no steps) We do not require accessibility (yet!), so our exchange can involve stairs. It is a fairly big house even though it only has two bedrooms.  We could accommodate a couple of children on futons or foam mattresses, although the house is not really “toddler” friendly.  We have two offices that could be used as sleeping spaces.  We sometimes travel with another couple so would enjoy an exchange which could accommodate four adults, but we would also be happy with a place which would be comfortable for just us two. In a great location, we are happy with a one bedroom apartment. We could supply complete camping equipment for four if you wanted to visit the mountains or lakes. (Tent, sleeping bags, camp stove, etc.)  Also bikes.

We have had wonderful exchanges in France, Sweden, The Netherlands, etc. For a European exchange, we are hoping for summer of 2025. We are always happy to consider an exchange closer to home.

Do you live in a wonderful city that isn't at the top of everyone’s “wish list”?  So do we!  Let’s find out why we're proud to call our city home and what we'd most like to share with visitors. http://exploreedmonton.com/

Edmonton is the capital city of the province of Alberta. Population - 1 million+.  Located in Treaty 6 Territory- Amiskwacîwâskahikan  ᐊᒥᐢᑲᐧᒋᐋᐧᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ. Edmonton is known as the “Festival City”  - August brings the largest Fringe Theatre festival in North America and a fantastic 4-day folk festival that attracts many international artists.  In previous years, these have included Emmy Lou Harris, Martin Simpson, k d lang, Bonnie Raitt, Rodney Crowell, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Arlo Guthrie and John Prine.  All a ten minute walk from our house!  We have short but hot summers and we cram as much entertainment into them as possible.
We are located on the edge of a ravine which is connected by a “ribbon of green” that winds across the whole city – you can bike or walk from one end of the city to the other and the trail runs right behind our house. We can supply bicycles.
We are within sight of downtown – a 5-minute bus ride or a 20-minute walk.  We live in Old Strathcona, the most vibrant neighbourhood in the city and voted the best neighbourhood to live in for 5 years in a row. We're also close to the University of Alberta, Campus Saint-Jean and the French Quarter.  We have two open-air street markets close by and many restaurants and bars only a walk away.
Other tourist attractions include Fort Edmonton, an open-air historical museum, the Royal Alberta Museum (great indigenous collection!), the Art Gallery of Alberta, and West Edmonton Mall – for many years the largest shopping mall in the world.

Informations sur la famille

We are a recently retired couple who love to travel.  Peter ran his own consulting business. He studied at the London School of Economics - his area is social policy.   He is originally from New Zealand.  Alison is a librarian and recently retired from Edmonton Public Library. We have two grown sons.

Two of our home exchanges involved hosting students attending University of Alberta for a semester (one from France, one from Sweden) We have really enjoyed the experience and getting to know their families.
