Country Cottage, Launceston, Cornwall, UK

NB: We have agreed an exchange for the summer of 2019 and one for October half term. We also have a provisional exchange agreement for summer 2020. We are not available for other exchanges in the summer, but open to offers at other times of the year, particularly in school holidays. We would be interested in a UK exchange later in the year, including long and short weekends.

Colpit Cottage is a 19th-century stone-built 2 bedroom cottage situated in Cornwall in between the market towns of Callington, Launceston and Liskeard. We are a few miles from the Devon border. Chris and Tracey live here with 14 year old Harry. Chris is a retired senior police officer and Tracey works as a school secretary. Colpit is in an idyllic location situated next to woodland and open fields with no near neighbours. It is a place of absolute tranquility with only the sounds of wildlife and the nearby river to disturb you.
We keep a few sheep and chickens which visitors are welcome to look after, but arrangements can be made for their care if preferred. We also have four cats that live outside which you are welcome to look after or, again, we can arrange someone to do that if preferred.
Colpit Cottage has been extensively refurbished in recent years and now enjoys slate flooring in the main house with under-floor heating. The kitchen has all modern conveniences including dishwasher, washing machine, and microwave oven as well as a traditional range cooker. There are the usual television and DVD player as well as wi-fi internet connection throughout the house. It is an old stone cottage, so it can get cold at night. In addition to central heating, we do have wood burning stoves and logs will be available - it makes the whole place fabulously cosy on those chilly evenings. We only have two bedrooms, so ideally we are looking for an exchange with couples or families with one child.
We are approximately one hour drive from Exeter airport, and the same from Newquay. Bristol airport is 2 hours away. The mainline railway station at Liskeard is just 6 miles. Car exchange is available. There is a local shop about 3 miles away and the market town of Launceston with all shopping and amenities is a 15-minute car journey. www.visitlaunceston.co.uk
Both the South and North coasts of Cornwall are easily accessible - about 30-40 minutes by car where there are wonderful walks and beautiful coastal towns to visit. Indeed the whole of Cornwall is within your reach. North Cornwall is known for its sandy beaches and great surfing whilst the south coast has fantastic scenery and coastal walks. The world famous Eden Project is a short distance away www.edenproject.com But if you would prefer not to travel too far, there are some great walks from Colpit Cottage either through the woods or up onto nearby Bodmin Moor. We will be happy to give full details of where to visit and some suggestions of good pubs and restaurants in the area. We would be happy to look after livestock/pets at your home. We are generally restricted to school term for our main holiday, but weekends are more flexible. Basically, we'll consider any offers.

We live in a very rural area close to lots of woodland and country walks. We are close to Bodmin Moor with its mining history and scenic walks. We have no near neighbours and there is only the sound of the river and the wildlife to disturb you. The local shops are a short drive a way and there are supermarkets in Launceston, Callington, and Liskeard. The beaches and surfing areas of North Cornwall are an hour away by car and the same for the more rugged coastline and fishing villages of the south coast. But the whole of the beautiful coast of Cornwall with its historic towns and villages are accessible and the same with beautiful Devon.
