Looking for ideas for 2020! 2019 all booked up. We offer a family home in the village of Datchet, Windsor - Great links to London, Oxford, Bath, Stonehenge and South Coast.

Are you looking for a destination close to London with easy car and rail access to all that the South of England has to offer? Our home is a comfortable family home, situated at the end of a cul-de-sac in the pretty and historic Thameside village of Datchet, 5 minutes drive from Windsor and a direct train journey to London (50 mins from Datchet; 20 mins from Slough, which is 5 minutes drive). It is also five minute's drive from the M25 - London orbital motorway, the M4, which goes all the way to South Wales, and the M40 which takes you to Oxford and the Midlands. The house has four bedrooms, including two with double beds (one with a sofa bed too), one bedroom with full size bunk beds, and a fourth small bedroom with a full-sized cabin bed. The downstairs living accommodation is open plan, with wooden and slate floor, a modern, well-equipped kitchen/breakfast room (including a Thermomix) and two lounge areas, one with a flat screen TV/DVD and a Wii. There is a playroom which also houses a computer (WiFi) and piano, as well as a small sofa bed (so if you wanted to bring a spare person or two we could fit them in). We have a small garden, which has a patio, plus garden furniture and bbq and there is a children's recreation ground suitable for small and older children less than 5 minutes walk. There is a piano, flute, cello and a guitar for musical visitors!
There is a large selection of children's DVDs/videos and books and, as the children are all keen artists, there are lots of arts and crafts materials at your disposal. There are also plenty of toys, games, puzzles, dolls, roller skates, scooters etc.
Our VW Touran is available for your use (7-seater, manual), however, as there is a train station in Datchet, you do not need to have a car to get around and into London.
We have two cats - Frank and Betty - that will need feeding. Both are shy and will not need much attention. Frank has asthma and needs an inhaler (!) twice a day if possible. He is used to it and is quite relaxed with the whole thing. The goldfish will need a pinch of food once a day. We also have a puppy - Rhubarb - but she will stay with friends for the duration of the exchange.
To date we have had eight successful exchanges through Intervac to Barcelona, Oropesa-del-Mar, Guerande, Paris, Cognac, Salzburg, Stockholm, Vigo in Galicia and Vancouver.
We are really happy to look after pets/animals in any home that we visit - to date we have looked after several cats and a really lovely big dog, which was a wonderful experience!
If you are interested in our property or have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch!

Informations sur la famille

Our family consists of Nick (Secondary School Teacher, 49), Angela (Charity Manager, 47), Annelies (16), Lena (14) and Evangeline (11). We have two cats - Frank and Betty 7 years, one puppy - Rhubarb 13 weeks - and one fish.
Rhubarb will go to another home for the duration of our exchanged. The cats are shy but easy to care for. If you need to leave them for a few days whilst visiting we can ask neighbours or family to feed them.

Le style de vie

Datchet is very conveniently located on a direct train line to London; the journey takes 50 mins, not including a 10 minute walk to the train station from our home, with the train terminating at London Waterloo, where you can walk to The Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, The National Gallery, Covent Garden and the South Bank. Waterloo is connected to London Underground which can take you directly to the many sights, including St Paul's Cathedral, The Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Tate Modern, Oxford Circus, Carnaby Street, Camden Market, Borough Market etc. There is a faster train into London Paddington taking 20 mins from Slough, which is five minutes drive away. Nearby Windsor, Staines and Slough have good shopping centres, and Kingston, Richmond and Reading are also easy to get to, as is Westfield in Shepherd's Bush in London. You can catch a train from Slough to Oxford, the West Country (Bath) and Wales very easily.
For local sightseeing there is Windsor Castle and Windsor Great Park, including Savil Garden nearby. Eton, the home of the famous Eton College, is five minutes drive, or a 30 minute walk. A short train journey or drive takes you to Hampton Court, Richmond, Kingston and all that London itself offers.
If you want to visit the seaside, the south coast, with resorts such as Brighton and Eastbourne, is a 1.5hr drive. Or if you are interested in visiting Wales, Datchet is on Junction 5 of the M4, the motorway which takes you directly to South Wales. Other interesting destinations which can be reached by car within 2 hours are Stonehenge, Stratford upon Avon, Warwick Castle, Leeds Castle, Longleat, and Woburn Abbey, amongst many others. There are many National Trust properties and sites within a short distance, including Runneymede, location of the Magna Carta memorial. The Harry Potter Experience in Watford is 30 mins drive, but needs booking well in advance.
Datchet has a water sports park called Liquid Leisure, where there is a huge outdoor water park. You can also partake in water skiing, wake boarding and outdoor swimming and there are also sailing clubs and the river Thames, where boat hire is available.
If you enjoy running, there are some wonderful circular, flat runs from Datchet that take you through the Windsor Great Park, up the Long Walk or through Eton. Cycling is great too, as there are very few hills in the locality.
