Pretty cottage- 500m to historic waterfront, lots of activities.
Everything on your doorstep, restaurants, shopping, monuments, views, activities, boat trips, the coast path and beaches. It's designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty. Dartmoor national park is 40 minutes away. Our 1875 cottage is 1300 square feet over 4 floors. There is a small sunny garden, with sofa, table and chairs, parasol, BBQ.
On the ground floor is an eat in kitchen with great new stove and underfloor heating, opening onto the garden. On the first floor the lounge is recently updated to open plan and has plenty of books, CDs and toys, xbox one and a shower room (wc/basin/excellent shower).
On the second floor is the main bedroom with queensize bed, a small child's room with a raised bed and a bathroom (wc/basin/bath). On the third floor is an attic room with double bed (and sofa bed). The house is comfortable for a family of 5 although we have occasionally had 6 visitors. We have parking for one car. Please note there are 40 steps from the road to our house and many stairs in the house and we'd recommend considering carefully if you have mobility difficulties or toddlers.

We are in South Devon, next to Cornwall on the South West peninsula of the UK. A quote from our exchange partners "on our second day we discovered our own private beach"
Dartmouth really is an exceptional location; in the UK it is seen as an upmarket yachty town with fabulous river views, lots of boat trips and a fantastic setting. The population of 5,000 have a strong community spirit- we have recently put in a new arts centre, leisure/sports centre and a lifeboat station.
The town is an ancient deepwater port with lots of historic buildings. We have good restaurants, lots of little local original shops and art galleries. There are many quiet beaches and coves nearby and historic houses and gardens to visit. Strolls around the town and river are very pleasant- there are public gardens, a lot of national trust land- woods and coastal areas to enjoy and much of the area is designated an "area of outstanding natural beauty". tennis courts, gym, arts centre/ cinema. You could just immerse yourself in the local life and potter to the deli or french bread shop for nice cheese and nibbles and then have a beer on the cobbled bayards cove watching the river and boats go by.
The area is called the South Hams and is dominated by the coast, green rolling hills, steep valleys a lot of local food production, little villages with some nice country pubs. The local towns are charming: Totnes is a beautiful but buzzing old country town further up the Dart river,Salcombe- chic, cosmopolitan, yet more boats, lovely beaches, Kingsbridge- an estuary town with relaxed high street. A little further away there are towns like Ashburton backing onto dartmoor and a home to green wellies and landrovers. If you like walking and hiking you will enjoy it here- it's a short distance on foot to the coastal paths and rolling hills and you can also drive to the nearby highland of Dartmoor National Park.
If you want to see some more of the South West of England you can drive in an hour to the historic cities of Exeter and Plymouth and to the Eastern end of Cornwall. Further afield is Exmoor National Park, The Eden Centre & The Jurassic Coast. Bath is about 2.5hrs and London is 3.5hours away.
We have lots of information for you-books, maps, leaflets & suggestions for wet day activities. Our neighbours and friendly and helpful and we have babysitting available.
